Bodmin College Peer Mentoring has been operating  for three years now.

Fabulous people have volunteered as Mentors – these are mainly Senior Students – who are trained, matched and let loose. They are supervised on a regular basis…and we can’t wait to find out what they think about the scheme.

We’ll also be asking some of the staff what they think…

and also, the Junior Students who are on the receiving end of the Mentoring process…how is it working for them?

Check out the Bodmin College website too for extra info!

There’s some new training coming up [recruiting new Mentors October 2008] so, see Ms Shepperd for the Information and Application Forms [downloadable from the Bodmin College website as above] and get everything back to me by 23rd October 2008.

And check this out too…http://www.teachers.tv/video/25113

This takes a look at Hornsey School for Girls in London – a very diverse school culturally and different in many ways to ours but, a really helpful video giving information on the skills and qualities needed to be a Peer Mentor with comments from Mentors about the kinds of situations that arise. Not run in quite the same way as here at Bodmin – but, some cracking good stuff!

Look out for the ‘how to’ info on ‘techniques’ which i’ll put on in the next few days - how to change your behaviour if you keep getting into trouble…and, as a Mentor, how you can support that change! Go to…
